CHICAGO (May 22, 2025) – Along with their excellence on the fields of competition, UIC student-athletes have consistently sustained greatness in the classroom, a standard that continued with the recently-completed Spring 2025 semester, with the Flames registering a 3.39 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) that is among the highest semester marks in school history.
UIC Athletics has now extended its streak to 22 consecutive semesters with a department GPA of 3.0 or higher. The UIC women's golf team led all Flames programs with a 3.78 GPA during the Spring 2025 term, while the Flames' men's soccer team topped all UIC men's programs with a 3.52 GPA last semester.
"Our student-athletes continue to raise the bar when it comes to academic achievement and we could not be prouder of their commitment to excellence in the classroom," said
Andrea Williams, UIC director of intercollegiate athletics. "A 3.39 department GPA — one of the highest in UIC Athletics history — along with a 22-semester streak of GPAs above 3.0 speaks volumes about the culture of academic responsibility we've built. This is a direct reflection of the dedication from our student-athletes, the support from our coaches and the tireless efforts of our academic services staff."
More than 20 percent (63) of UIC's 298 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA, while nearly half (144) were named to the Dean's List after posting a 3.5 GPA or higher. Well over three-quarters (233) of all UIC student-athletes completed this past semester with a 3.0 GPA and were named Flames Scholar-Athletes for their accomplishments in the classroom.
Thursday's announcement is the latest in a series of glowing academic achievements for UIC Athletics. Earlier this month, the Flames posted a record-setting 994 NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) score, with five programs registering perfect multi-year APR marks. Last fall, UIC Athletics set a school record with a 3.43 semester GPA and announced a 92% Graduation Success Rate (GSR) for its student-athletes. The latter figure also represented the fifth consecutive year UIC has topped the 90-percent mark on its department-wide NCAA GSR score, with seven Flames' programs tallying a perfect 100 NCAA GSR metric.
"These milestones are a testament to the daily discipline, focus, and resilience shown by our student-athletes," said
Karen Dixon, UIC associate athletics director for academic services. "From record-setting APR scores to a department-wide 92% Graduation Success Rate, we are seeing the long-term impact of our academic support systems. Our team remains deeply committed to fostering an environment where academic success is just as celebrated as athletic achievement and this semester's results confirm that we are on the right path."
