Baseball Splits Friday Double-Header in MVC Tournament

No. 4 Flames will face no. 2 Missouri State in an elimination game Saturday

NORMAL, Ill. – The no. 4 seed UIC baseball team (22-32, 16-11 MVC) continued play in the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Championship on Friday, as the Flames began the day with a matchup against fellow 1-0 side no. 2 Missouri State before facing the no. 1 seed Murray State for a trip to the championship series.

GAME ONE RECAP
The Flames jumped out to an early advantage in game one, as Luke Nowak singled on the first pitch of the game and was brought around to score on a fielder's choice to put UIC ahead 1-0. The Bears answered back in the home half of the first with an RBI ground out to level the score 1-1.

UIC again took the lead in the top of the third, as Colin Husko brought home Jackson Bessette with a triple to right center field to put the Flames ahead 2-1. Following a Bears run in the fourth, UIC answered back again with back-to-back home runs off the bats of Thomas Curry and Bessette to put the Flames ahead 5-2. The teams traded runs in the sixth, as Vidal Colon bounced a single through the infield to score Terrick Thompson-Allen and put the Flames ahead 6-3 after six complete innings.

The Flames added insurance runs in the eighth and ninth innings, taking a commanding 11-5 lead in the ninth and cruising to their fifth straight win by that score.

UIC took the lead once again in game two, scoring in the first inning for the third straight tournament game, as Curry singled home Nowak who doubled on the first pitch of the game.

The two sides traded zeros throughout the middle frames, as Brandon Bak held the Racers hitless through the first four innings before a solo home run tied the game at 1-1.

UIC re-gained the lead in the top of the seventh, as Thompson-Allen doubled down the right field line to bring home Bessette and put the Flames back on top 2-1.

The Racers answered with three in the home half of the seventh and one in the bottom of the eighth to pull ahead 5-2.

Despite putting runners on base in the top of the ninth inning, the Flames were unable to push across a run, and fell by a 5-2 final score, ending their five-game winning streak.
