Women’s Soccer Scores, Falls to Eastern Washington

Flames fall 4-1

Cheney, Wash. – Closing out their time in Washington, the UIC women's soccer team took on the Eastern Washington Eagles. After scoring their first official goal of the season, the Flames (1-4-1, 0-0 MVC) battled until the final whistle with the Eagles (2-2-1, 0-0 Big Sky). In the end, the Eagles came out on top, defeating the Flames 4-1.

With the game underway, the Eagles would hold control, but it would be the Flames who scored first with their first official goal of the season. Freshman Jilly Higgins, who earned her first career start, gave the Flames the early lead in the 16th minute. As the Flames stole the ball, the ball was played towards the top of the 18-yard box. Racing towards the ball, J. Higgins would capitalize on an Eagles mis-clearance, taking a touch just inside the box before ripping a right-footed shot. J. Higgins' initial shot would be saved by the Eagles goalkeeper, but the rebound came right back to her, where she was able to send a right-footed kick to the center of the net, scoring her first career goal and giving the Flames a 1-0 lead. The lead wouldn't last long, though, as the Eagles scored the tying goal eight minutes later with a shot into the top right corner. The score would sit at 1-1 before the Eagles jumped ahead in the 42nd minute with a goal scored off a corner kick, taking a 2-1 lead over the Flames just before halftime.

Coming out of the half, Riley Collett opened action with a shot in the 48th minute, but the Eagles' defense would block the Flames' tying opportunity. Both teams would go on to record multiple chances in the second half, but it would be the Eagles who capitalized on their opportunities, scoring in the 74th and 81st minutes to secure a 4-1 victory over the Flames.
