Volleyball Hosts DePaul, Loyola in Chicago Cup this Weekend

Crosstown clash awaits Flames at Credit Union 1 Arena.

CHICAGO – After a stellar first homestand of the season, the UIC volleyball team (4-4, 0-0 MVC) will be back at Credit Union 1 Arena, hosting DePaul (5-3, 0-0 BIG EAST) and Loyola (3-6, 0-0 A-10) at home for the annual Chicago Cup Tournament over the weekend.

Friday, Sept. 19
vs. DePaul (6-3, 0-0 BIG EAST)

Promotion: Youth Volleyball Day: Young fans will be invited to join a high-five tunnel before the match, and the team will sign post-match autographs.

SCOUTING DEPAUL
  • This will be the 50th match-up between the programs dating back to Sept. 1982. DePaul holds a 28-21 overall lead in the series, as the Flames aim to collect their first win since 2022.
  • Freshman libero Evan Hurrle is coming off a strong weekend, earning BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors. She tallied 39 digs across six sets along with four service aces in the win against Chicago State. Her 5.0 digs per set ranks her second in the conference.
  • The Blue Demons are coming off of a 3-2 victory at Milwaukee Friday night, led by a career-high 17 kills from senior Katelynn Oxley. 
SCOUTING LOYOLA
  • The Flames and the Ramblers meet  for the 74h time in program history. Loyola holds a 39-34 series lead, though UIC has won six of the past seven meetings.
  • The Ramblers are coming off a 1-2 showing at their home invitational last weekend. Their lone win was against Stephen F. Austin in a five-set thriller led by a 25-kill performance from sophomore Kaitlyn Burke Thursday night.
  • The Ramblers enter the Chicago Cup over the weekend after facing off against #12 Minnesota (8-1, 0-0 Big 10) at home Friday at 6 p.m. (CT) at Gentile Arena. 
LAST WEEKEND RECAP – vs. CENTRAL ARKANSAS/CHICAGO STATE
  • The Flames opened their home slate with back-to-back straight set wins against Central Arkansas (2-6, 0-0 ASUN) and Chicago State (0-7, 0-0 NEC).
  • Senior Beatrice Carulli recorded consecutive nine-kill performances, finishing the weekend averaging 3.60 kills per set on a .433 attack clip.
  • Freshman libero Ava Young collected 22 digs, averaging 3.67 digs per set, while maintaining a 1.000 perfect receiving percentage.
  • Senior middle blocker Julieta Sandez closed the weekend hitting .714 and continues to lead the Missouri Valley Conference with a .490 percentage three weeks into the season.
