Volleyball Starts Conference Play against Drake and Northern Iowa this Weekend

Flames seek to extend homestand success into Missouri Valley Conference play.

CHICAGO – For the third straight weekend, the UIC volleyball team (6-4, 0-0 MVC) is back at Credit Union 1 Arena. The Flames open Missouri Valley Conference play against Northern Iowa (7-5, 0-0 MVC) on Friday and Drake (4-7, 0-0 MVC) on Saturday.

SCOUTING NORTHERN IOWA
  • This Friday will be the 19th match-up between the Flames and the Panthers.
  • The teams last met in the 2024 MVC Championship, where UNI claimed the title in four sets. Sophomore Antonie Kelnárová (16 kills) and junior Gabi Peter (14 kills) led the attack for UIC.
  • UNI enters the weekend after three consecutive sweeps at the Capital Credit Union Classic in Green Bay, Wis. Redshirt freshman Jadyn Peterson recorded 46 digs (5.1 per set) to earn MVC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
SCOUTING DRAKE
  • Saturday's match-up will be the 17th face-off between UIC and Drake.
  • In their last meeting, UIC swept Drake to punch its ticket into the 2024 MVC Championship match. Kelnárovâ led the way with 15 kills and five digs in the win.
  • The Bulldogs went 1-2 last weekend at the South Dakota Classic, earning its lone win coming against Villanova (9-2, 0-0 BIG EAST).
CHICAGO CUP RECAP
  • The Flames closed out last weekend as the winners of the Chicago Cup with wins over DePaul (7-4, 0-0 BIG EAST) and Loyola (3-9, 0-0 A-10).
  • Senior Julieta Sandez was named MVC Player of the Week and Chicago Cup MVP after posting 27 kills on a .634 hitting percentage. She enters this weekend tied for first in NCAA Division I with a .531 season hitting percentage.
  • Peter earned All-Tournament honors after tallying 21 kills (2.33 per set) and adding eight total blocks on the defensive side.
  • Senior Ayat Amin also collected All-Tournament recognition, finishing with 26 kills (2.89 per set) and 11 blocks.
