CHICAGO (Jan. 6, 2026) – UIC student-athletes continued to excel academically during the Fall 2025 semester, posting a 3.34 cumulative department grade-point average (GPA), one of the highest semester marks in program history. The achievement reflects UIC Athletics' sustained commitment to success in the classroom alongside competitive excellence.
Â
With the latest results, UIC Athletics has now recorded a department GPA of 3.00 or better for 23 consecutive semesters. Every one of the Flames' 18 varsity programs met or exceeded the 3.00 benchmark during the fall term.
Â
The UIC women's golf program led all Flames teams with a 3.80 GPA, followed closely by the Missouri Valley Conference champion UIC women's soccer team at 3.73. On the men's side, swimming & diving paced UIC programs with a 3.51 GPA. The Fall 2025 semester also featured a program-record GPA for men's basketball (3.26).
Â
"Academic excellence is a cornerstone of who we are at UIC and this semester's results are a powerful reflection of that commitment," said
Andrea Williams, UIC director of intercollegiate athletics. "Posting a 3.34 department GPA, and collectively exceeding a 3.00 GPA for the 23rd consecutive semester speaks to the discipline, accountability and pride our student-athletes bring to everything they do. I am incredibly proud of their dedication, as well as the coaches, faculty and staff who support them every step of the way."
Of the 292 UIC student-athletes enrolled during the Fall 2025 semester, more than 20 percent (65) earned a perfect 4.00 GPA, while nearly half of all Flames student-athletes (143) were named to the Dean's List with a GPA of 3.50 or higher. Additionally, close to 80 percent (225) of UIC's student-athletes achieved a GPA of 3.00 or better and were recognized as Flames Scholar-Athletes.
Â
The GPA announcement adds to an impressive stretch of recent academic accomplishments for UIC Athletics. In November, the department reported a 91% Graduation Success Rate (GSR), marking the sixth consecutive year the Flames have surpassed the 90-percent threshold, with six programs earning perfect NCAA GSR scores. Last spring, UIC also achieved a department-record 994 NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR), highlighted by five programs posting perfect multi-year APR marks.
Â
"These results highlight the consistency and care that define our academic support model," said
Karen Dixon, UIC associate athletics director for academic services. "Our student-athletes continue to meet high expectations because they are supported by intentional programming, strong relationships and a shared belief that success in the classroom matters. This semester is another clear sign that our holistic approach is producing lasting results."
