Women’s Soccer Comes Up Short to Murray State

Flames defeated by Racers 1-0

MURRAY, Ky. – On the road, the UIC women's soccer team took on the Murray State Racers for a Missouri Valley Conference contest. A Racer (3-8-2, 2-2-0 MVC) goal in the 48th minute was the difference maker, as the Flames (1-9-2, 0-4 MVC) suffered a 1-0 loss following 90 minutes of action.

FIRST HALF
Although the Racers carried possession through the opening minutes of the match, the Flames would record the first shots. Tenley McMenamy would have a shot blocked before Becca Ruggiero placed a shot on frame in the 5th minute.

McMenamy once again had an opportunity in the 23rd minute as the Flames earned a free kick over 30 yards out from the goal. Elyse DeSchryver and McMenamy lined up to take the kick, with McMenamy striking the ball, sending it just over the crossbar, resulting in a Racer goal-kick.

DeSchryver took a chance in the 31st minute, resulting in a save by Racer's goalkeeper, Griselda Revolorio.

With 45 minutes down, the two sides entered halftime with the score tied 0-0. UIC outshot Murray State 8-2, with a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal.

SECOND HALF
Coming out of halftime, the Racers capitalized on their first opportunity. Breece Bass found the back of the net in the 48th minute, giving Murray State a 1-0 lead over UIC.

The Flames' first shot of the second half came in the 61st minute off the foot of McMenamy from distance.

UIC's only other opportunity was recorded in the 74th minute when Rosie Martin placed a shot towards the center of the net, resulting in a Revolorio save.

Possession between the two sides would sit in the midfield for most of the second half, resulting in limited opportunities.

At the final whistle, the Racers' goal in the 48th minute proved to be the difference maker, as the Flames fell to the host 1-0.
