Volleyball Drops Halloween Thriller at Belmont, 3-2

Four Flames finish with double-figure kills in a Music City marathon.

NASHVILLE – The UIC volleyball team nearly came away from its Halloween matinee at Belmont with a priceless Missouri Valley Conference win, but the host Bruins found a way to squeeze out the final two points and snatch a 3-2 victory (25-23, 19-25, 25-14, 17-25, 15-13) on Saturday afternoon at the Curb Event Center in Nashville. The Flames (10-14, 6-6 MVC) were the first conference opponent to push Belmont (14-9, 11-1) to five sets this season, while UIC went the distance for the second time in its MVC schedule.

Four UIC players finished with double-digit kills, led by senior outside hitter Tamara Kisic, who just missed a double-double with a team-high 12 kills and nine digs, plus a career high-tying four blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Ana Petrides also had a team-high 12 kills and four blocks while hitting .500 for the afternoon. The Flames also got a strong effort from freshman outside hitter Martina Cerrato, who hammered a career-high 11 kills and added a career-best two blocks. Senior outside hitter Gabi Peter rounded out the double-digit kill quartet with 10 kills, while sophomore libero Ava Young also played a pivotal role with a match-high 21 digs.
