Women's Soccer Drops Season Finale to Evansville, 3-1

Tenley McMenamy nets her second goal of the season for the Flames.

CHICAGO — The UIC women's soccer team came out aggressively in Thursday's season finale against Evansville and drew even on freshman midfielder Tenley McMenamy's goal in the 24th minute, but Evansville took advantage of an overturned call by VAR to convert a penalty kick two minutes later and then added a second-half insurance goal to take a 3-1 victory at Flames Field.

The Purple Aces (5-7-2, 3-5-1 MVC) had taken the early lead in the ninth minute before McMenemy responded with the second goal of her rookie season just past the midpoint of the first half, rising up for a header into the right-side netting after a pinpoint corner kick from junior midfielder Jennifer Rodriguez.

The decisive moment came in the 26th minute, when the Flames' defense looked to have stood up the Evansville attack and forced a goal kick. However, the Purple Aces elected to challenge for a foul in the penalty area and after review, the call was changed to a penalty kick, which the visitors scored. Evansville then tallied the critical insurance marker in the 64th minute off a goal-mouth scramble following a corner kick.

UIC (2-11-4, 1-6-2) finished with a 17-7 edge in total shots, including a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal, and also wound up with a 3-2 margin on corner kicks.
