Women’s Basketball Visits Indiana State in Thursday Night MVC Clash

The Flames and Sycamores go toe-to-toe at 6 p.m. (CT) at the Hulman Center.

TERRA HAUTE, IND. – The UIC women's basketball team (11-14, 6-8 MVC) aims to return to the win column in Missouri Valley Conference play as they travel south to Terre Haute to face-off against Indiana State (8-17, 4-11 MVC) at 6 p.m. (CT) at the Hulman Center Thursday evening.

SCOUTING INDIANA STATE
  • Thursday's matchup will become the 23rd all-time between the Flames and the Sycamores. Indiana State leads the series 13-9, with UIC winning the previous six meetings.
  • In their last match-up, the Flames secured a 70-57 victory at home on Jan. 4. Senior Jessica Carrothers led all scorers with 20 points, five assists and three steals.
  • The Sycamores aim to return to the win column themselves, going 0-2 on their road trip to Iowa last weekend, falling to Northern Iowa (12-12, 8-6 MVC) and Drake (7-17, 6-8 MVC).
  • Leading the line for Indiana State is sophomore guard Tierney Kelsey, who is averaging 14.2 points per game, recently dropping 27 points in their 91-79 loss to the Panthers.
  • The main playmaker of the offense is tempo'ed by senior guard Kennedy Claybrooks leads the team with 111 assists and sits second in three-point percentage (33.3%).
LAST GAME RECAP – AT MURRAY STATE
  • The Flames nearly erased an 18-point deficit with a bucket from Carrothers in the closing seconds before Murray State (22-3, 13-1 MVC) sealing a heartbreaking loss for the Flames, 79-77.
  • Carrothers featured in all 40 minutes, led the team in scoring with 21 and in steals with three. She paced the game for the Flames, shooting 50% from the field.
  • Senior Amelia Strong came off the bench in the loss, recording a career-high 20 points and nine boards. She shot 4-5 from the charity stripe and 9-11 from the field.
  • Redshirt sophomore Julia Coleman and sophomore TuTu Clayton both scored double digits on Sunday.
