Las Vegas, Nev. – On day two of opening weekend, the Flames took on the Purdue Boilermakers (3-0) for an afternoon contest before closing out the night against the host, the UNLV Rebels (1-3). Taking on the Boilermakers in the sunshine, the Flames would notch one run in the bottom of the fourth off a
Cameran Rios double but would fall 9-1 in five innings. Later, under the lights, the Flames took on the Rebels. The Flames set the pace early, with runs in the first and second inning, including a solo home run by
Grace Taylor. Throughout the game, the Flames continued to build their lead, eventually leading to a 6-2 victory, their first of the season. With the win, the Flames move to 1-3.
GAME ONE
Purdue jumped out to an early lead with an RBI-double in the top of the first to go up 1-0 on UIC. Following a scoreless second inning, the Boilermakers extended their lead with two runs in the third and five in the fourth to take an 8-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, the Flames collected their first hit and run of the game. With
Emilia Bartholomew reaching on a fielder's choice and advancing to second, she was able to make her way home for the Flames lone run of the game off a
Cameran Rios double to left field. Purdue would go on to add one more run in the top of the fifth, and with the Flames unable to bring anyone else home, they would fall to the Boilermakers 9-1 in five innings.
