Madeira Beach, Fla. – On the final day of the Make It Happen Games, the UIC softball team took on the Colgate Raiders (7-13) and the Siena Saints (3-5). In game one, the Flames and Raiders had a back-and-forth battle before Colgate jumped out ahead in the seventh inning, going on to defeat UIC 16-9.
Emilia Bartholomew,
Larissa Ortiz, and
Sam Tourtillott all homered in the contest. Game two would be a scoreless after before an Ortiz two-RBI single put the Flames on top, ultimately giving them the 2-0 victory over the Saints, their first shutout victory of the year. The Flames finish the day 1-1, putting their record 10-10-1
GAME ONE
A back-and-forth contest from the start, the Flames and Raiders battled through seven innings. Colgate opened the contest with a one-run homer to take the early lead before UIC took the lead in the bottom of the second.
Emily Brecht recorded the Flames first run when she scored off a wild pitch. During
Diamond Blomlie's walk,
Emilia Bartholomew stole home. Then, during an error on the first baseman, Blomlie reached home, putting the Flames on top 3-1. The Raiders added three runs of their own in the top of the third to take back the lead. In the fourth, Colgate added one more run before UIC tied the contest in the bottom half of the inning.
Emilia Bartholomew hit her second home run of her career to tie the game at 5-5. In the fifth, the Flames took the lead back when
Larissa Ortiz hit a three-run homer, her third home run of the year. After five, the Flames led the Raiders 8-5. In the sixth, the Flames added one more run when
Sam Tourtillott hit a solo shot out of left center field. Unfortunately for the Flames, the Raiders recorded an 11-run inning as they went on to defeat the Flames 16-9.

GAME TWO
It was a scoreless affair between the Flames and Saints through five innings, with the Flames recording a single hit in the first, third, and fourth innings, while the Saints recorded a single hit in the third and fifth.
Larissa Ortiz broke the deadlock in the sixth inning when she singled to right field, scoring
Siena Stickney and
Sam Tourtillott. In the seventh inning, Siena recorded two hits, but UIC held strong as they went on to win 2-0, earning their first shutout victory of the year.
Jasmine Whorley earned the complete game win with four strikeouts.

The Flames will now begin Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) play when they head to Nashville, Tenn. to take on the reigning MVC champions, the Belmont Bruins.
