Terre Haute, Ind. – The UIC softball team and the Indiana State Sycamores closed out their Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) series on Saturday with a solo contest. Momentum would go in favor early of the home team, who jumped out to a 4-1 lead at the end of the first. The Flames would fight, but the Sycamores proved to be too much, as UIC fell to Indiana State 9-2 in game three of the weekend. The Flames move to
12-14-1, 2-4 in conference play while the Sycamores move to
15-10, 4-2 in conference play.
Opening the game with loaded bases, the Flames collected their first run of the game from a
Siena Stickney sac-fly that brought home
Cameran Rios. In the bottom of the inning, the Sycamores took the lead with a three hit, four run inning to jump ahead of the Flames 4-1. UIC cut the deficit to two in the second when
Grace Taylor hit a double to left center field, scoring
Sam White. Indiana State went on to add a run of their own as the Flames trailed the Sycamores 5-2 at the end of two. The Sycamores recorded a four-run inning in the third to extend to a 9-2 lead over the Flames. Scoreless fourth and fifth innings would come and go for the two sides, with Taylor,
Sophie Gerochi, and
Ari O'Connell all collecting a hit for the Flames. In the top of the sixth,
Emily Brecht hit her third double of the year but would get left stranded. For the final inning, Rios would reach on an error by the Sycamores before stealing second, but the Flames would ultimately fall short, dropping the contest 9-2.
