Baseball Drops Midweek Clash Against Iowa Tuesday Night, 6-4

The Flames are back home this weekend for a series against Youngstown State.

IOWA CITY, IOWA – The UIC baseball team (15-23-1, 10-5 MVC) went to battle against Iowa (23-16, 7-11 Big Ten) on the road at Duane Banks Field Wednesday night, falling short in this midweek match-up, 6-4.

After a quiet first inning, the Flames were the first to get on the board when junior Andrew Pyszka crushed a three-run home run 395 feet over the left center field wall, scoring senior Colin Husko and redshirt junior Kale Jensen to get UIC ahead 3-0 after the top of the first inning.

Senior Kendall Lyons closed out his start in his second finally inning with two groundouts and a pop out to shallow left field to end the frame before being pulled. The hurler finished with 2.0 innings of work, one hit allowed and a pair of walks in his 26-pitch performance.

The Hawkeyes plated four runs in the fourth before UIC managed to tie it up innings later. In the top of the sixth, after a pair of walks from Jensen and junior Vidal Colon, Husko would hit a hard ground ball just past Iowa's Caleb Wulf, leading to Colon scoring from second base on the single.

Iowa would score two more runs in the later innings before senior Michael Vitellaro closed the night out on the mound for UIC. He had a strong 1.2 innings of work out of the bullpen, finishing with a swing strikeout to end the eighth inning.

Down to UIC's final three outs, Husko would lead off the ninth with a double, before a pair of strikeouts was soon followed by a ground out to secure Iowa the win.
