Charleston, Ill. – Back in action for another mid-week non-conference contest, the UIC softball team traveled three hours south to take on the Eastern Illinois Panthers for their first meeting since 2014. The evening contest started in favor of the Flames, who recorded two early runs before the Panthers quickly tied the game. UIC would go back up, but only for a moment as Eastern Illinois took the lead in the third and held it for the remainder of the contest, going on to defeat the Fames 6-3. The Flames move to 19-27-1 overall while the Panthers move to 27-20 overall.
Underway,
Cameran Rios led off the Flames for the first hit of a game.
Siena Stickney followed with a single to right field, advancing Rios to third. With her first hit of the game, Stickney improved to a 20-game hitting streak.
Sam Tourtillott then doubled to right center field, bringing home Rios and Stickney for the first two runs of the game. The Panthers quickly responded, tying the game with two runs of their own to end the first inning. UIC took back the lead in the second. With
Grace Taylor on third, and Rios on first, Stickney hit an RBI single to center field. The Flames kept the Panthers one hit, no runs in the bottom of the inning as they ended the second leading 3-2.
Nina Pesare recorded the Flames lone hit of the third as momentum shifted in favor of the home team. The Panthers would go on to hit a three-run homer, taking a 5-3 lead over the Flames in the third inning. Eastern Illinois extended their lead in the fourth with one run off a sac-fly to take a 6-3 lead. For the remainder of the contest, the Flames would go without a hit, while the Panthers collected three, but were unsuccessful in bringing home any runs.
