CHICAGO – Hosting their sixth Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) series of the year, the UIC softball team welcomed the Illinois State Redbirds to Flames Field for a Wednesday doubleheader. The Flames were unable to come away with a win, dropping the opening game 17-2 in five innings and the second game by a score of 5-1. The Flames move to 17-21-1, 6-11 in conference play while the Redbirds move to 22-12, 11-5 in conference play.
GAME ONE
Illinois State got the scoring open early and often, scoring two in the first, one in the second, six in the third and eight in the fourth. The Flames got on the board in the bottom of the fourth on an infield single from

Sophie Gerochiwith
Cameran Rios scoring on an error. UIC was unable to plate any runs in the bottom of the fifth and the game was called due to run-rule falling 17-2.

GAME TWO
The Flames struck first, pushing across a run in the first inning when
Larissa Ortiz dropped a single into right field, scoring
Cameran Rios from second base. Illinois State answered in the second inning with a solo home run. Neither team scored again until the Redbirds rebroke the seal, scoring two runs of an error in the top of the sixth. In the top of the final frame the Redbirds would add two more runs bringing the score to 5-1. UIC was unable to score in the final frame and dropped the game 5-1.

The Flames will be back in action over the weekend when they take on the UNI Panthers in a three-game series. Firsts pitch of game one will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. CT in Cedar Falls, Iowa, with game two to follow. The two sides will then close out the series on Saturday with a solo contest.
