CHICAGO – For their final series of the 2026 regular season, the UIC softball team hosted the Southern Illinois Salukis for Missouri Valley Conference action. SIU would walk away with the doubleheader victory, taking game one 2-1 and game two 6-4 over UIC. In game two,
Larissa Ortiz hit her fifth homer of the season with a solo blast to left center field. The Flames fall to 21-31-1, 10-17 in conference play while the Salukis move to 32-15, 20-6 in conference play.
Prior to game one, the Flames honored Military & First Responders Appreciation Day with Officer Jasmine McIlvenny and Pawfficer Ham throwing out the first pitch.
GAME ONE
Through the first two innings, only the Salukis would record a hit with a leadoff single in the first. In the third, SIU took the lead with back-to-back RBI doubles to left field as they would end the inning leading UIC 2-0.
The Flames picked up their first hit of the game in the fourth when
Cameran Rios led off the inning with a single to right field. The Flames would then get their first and only run of the contest in the fifth.
Sophie Gerochi led off the inning with a single to third base. Then, with one out,
Emily Brecht reached first on an error before making her way to third, Gerochi would score on the play.
In the seventh, Gerochi picked up her second hit of the game, but would get left stranded as the Flames fell to the Salukis 2-1.

GAME TWO
After a scoreless first inning, the Flames would take the lead over the Salukis in the bottom of the second. Leading off the inning,
Larissa Ortiz hit her fifth homer of the year to left center field, putting the Flames on the board with a 1-0 lead.
In the third, the Salukis answered, hitting a two-run right center field to take a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the inning,
Sam Tourtillott fell just shy of hitting a homer herself, with the ball bouncing off the top of the outfield wall back onto the field, resulting in a double for the senior.
Following no runs in the fourth, the Salukis added a four hit, four run inning in the top of the fifth to take a 6-1 lead. The Flames wouldn't let up, recording a three hit, two run inning to come within three of the visitors.
Nina Pesare led off the inning with a single to the shortstop before advancing to second when
Cameran Rios reached on a fielder's choice. With an out on the board, Tourtillott recorded a two-RBI double to right center field. At the end of the fifth, the Flames trailed the Salukis 6-3.
The Flames recorded one final run in the seventh off a
Sophie Gerochi RBI single, but would fall short to the Salukis 6-4.
