Softball Trio Named to MVC Scholar-Athlete Team

Larissa Ortiz, Sam Tourtillott and Cameran Rios represent the Flames

ST. LOUIS – Three UIC softball players were recognized for their excellence both on the field and in the classroom, earning spots on the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team, the conference announced Monday afternoon. Redshirt-senior Larissa Ortiz, senior Sam Tourtillott and junior Cameran Rios are the Flames Honorees.

Larissa Ortiz maintains a 4.00 GPA pursuing a masters in marketing, she held a 3.78 GPA through undergrad as a management major. Sam Tourtillott holds a 3.64 GPA as a psychology major. Cameran Rios up holds a 3.55 GPA as a biological sciences major

To meet the criteria for the MVC's Scholar-Athlete team, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.  Redshirt freshmen were not eligible. Nominees must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA, both as an undergraduate and graduate student, where applicable. Eligible nominees must compete in at least 75 percent of the institution's games played OR must start in at least 50 percent of the institution's games. For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances OR pitched 35 innings.
