DeKALB, Ill. — Sophomore forward Antonio Delgado scored his first career goal in the 59th minute to draw UIC level, but Northern Illinois scored on its only shot on goal of the second half just 29 seconds later and that proved to be the difference in a 2-1 final on Sunday night at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex in DeKalb, Ill.
Delgado scored after junior midfielder Sebastian Khoury saw his initial shot stopped as the Flames (0-3-1) wiped out NIU's initial score that came just 81 seconds into the contest. UIC maintained constant pressure on the Huskies' back line throughout the night, finishing with an 18-10 edge in total shots, including a 12-3 margin in the second half. The tallies in the shots on goal department were even more lopsided, with the Flames putting 12 tries on frame, compared to only three for Northern Illinois (and UIC had a 9-1 shots on goal advantage in the second half alone). Add to that a 6-2 UIC margin on corner kicks, and for the fourth time in as many matches this season, the Flames came away with the statistical edge in every meaningful category.

- UIC's 12 shots on goal were its highest total since Sept. 7, 2025, when the Flames put 14 shots on target against Wright State.
- Delgado is the second UIC player to score his first career goal this season. Redshirt junior midfielder Alan Alonso opened his account with a penalty kick goal on Aug. 23 at Oral Roberts.
- For the second match in a row, Khoury set new career highs in shots (6) and shots on goal (4). He also picked up his first assist of the season after having five last year.
