Madison, Wis. – Following a two-hour weather delay, the UIC women's soccer team was underway, taking on the #22 Wisconsin Badgers in non-conference action. After going down early, the Flames (0-4-2, 0-0 MVC) tied the match late in the first half before the Badgers (2-1-1, 0-0 Big Ten) quickly responded to take back the lead. Second-half action saw the Badgers extend their lead and not look back, as Wisconsin went on to defeat UIC 5-1.
FIRST HALF
Delaney Engel recorded the first shot of the contest in the 3
rd minute, but the Badgers' defense blocked the shot from reaching the goal.
Wisconsin capitalized on its first opportunity of the match. Receiving a corner kick, the Badgers sent the ball into the box. Jane Rogers got the final touch on the bouncing ball, sending a shot into the goal in the 5
th minute, giving the Badgers an early 1-0 lead. Anya Gulbrandsen and Izy Truab were awarded the assists.
Camryn Ries had the Flames' best shot of the half in the 23
rd minute. Taking a chance just outside the 18-yard box, Ries sent a left-footed shot on frame, but into the hands of Drew Stover.
Applying pressure in the Badgers' defensive half,
Kamryn Brickman tapped the ball in the direction of
Gracie Lisota. About 25 yards out from goal, Listoa would turn and place a first-time, left-footed shot over the top of the Badgers keeper and into the side netting of the goal, scoring her second of the season. With a goal in the 41
st minute, the Flames tied the contest.
Wisconsin quickly responded with Abby Ballek scoring in the 43
rd minute with a right-footed shot just inside the 18-yard box, taking a 2-1 lead over UIC just before halftime.
SECOND HALF
With a quick start coming out of halftime, the Badgers extended their lead with a goal in the 48
th minute off the foot of Jenna Baumann, assisted by Truab.
Baumann picked up her second goal of the contest six minutes later off a Jane Rogers and Megan Cornell assist, giving the Badgers a 4-1 lead over the Flames.
Seven minutes later, the Badgers extended their lead with a goal from Margaret Sisik off a Delaney Cox and KK Panella assist.
Throughout the half, the Flames tallied five shots, with two from Lisota and one each from Engel, Lisota,
Emily Crotty, and
Elyse DeSchryver.
At the final whistle, UIC fell to #22 Wisconsin 5-1.

UP NEXT
The Flames return to Flames Field on Sunday to host Western Kentucky in a non-conference contest. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT.
