CHICAGO -- Two former members of the UIC women's basketball program have signed professional contracts in recent weeks, as Danyel Middleton and Sandra Frau-Garcia will be playing professional basketball overseas.

Middleton inks her third professional contract, signing with BC Slavia Women's Basketball, an organziation apart of the Bulgaria "A" Group of the Women's Basketball League located in Sofia, Bulgaria. She previously made stops with Club Deportivo Omega (Concepción, Chile) and Atuernos del Pacifico (Manta, Ecuador).

Across three seasons at UIC, Middleton appeared in 97 games with 66 starts. She averaged 8.2 points per game and totaled 104 steals, 146 assists and 263 rebounds. She scored in double figures 37 times in a Flames uniform.

"I am so proud of Dany," head coach Ashleen Bracey said. "She is living out her dream playing professionally, the sky is the limit for her with her love for the game, her discipline and her work ethic."

Frau-Garcia signs her first professional contract after completing her collegiate career, joining the Onsala Pirates, a professional team based in Kungsbacka, Sweden. The Pirates compete in the Svenska Basketligan Dam League (SBL Dam).

In two seasons with the Flames, Frau-Garcia played in 67 games with 15 starts. She averaged three points, 3.5 assists and 1.34 steals per game. During the 2024-25 campaign, she finished second on the team with 106 assists, averaging 3.2 per game — ranking 11th in the Missouri Valley Conference. She recorded five-plus assists in nine contests during her final season at UIC.

"I am so excited for Sandy as she made a big sacrifice to play basketball in the states at the college level," Bracey said. "She has been preparing for the opportunity to play professionally, and is prepared to  be an incredible addition in Sweden."

Also joining Garcia and Middleton on the professional circuit  is their former teammate Arin Freeman, who returns to Macedonia for her second season with KK Badel 1862 Skopje.
