Danner spent 30 years coaching the Flames in Swimming, Diving, and Water Polo. As the swim coach from 1967-94, he coached 32 All-Americans and twice had teams ranked in the top ten (1978-1979). He was a two time "Coach of the Year" by the Illinois Swimming Association and five time conference coach of the year.

Danner was the Diving coach from 1965 to 1977 and during that time he guided six divers for NCAA Championships and eight All-Americans. He also has the distinction of coaching UIC's first NCAA National Champion (Gary Dworski).

As a Water Polo coach, Danner guided his 1979 team to a 20-3 record finishing 6th in the NCAA. He coached three AAU All-Americans and in 1997 he was inducted into the Illinois Water Polo Association Hall of Fame.

Madej has the distinction of being the first-ever NCAA Division I All-American at UICC, an honor he received in 1976. Madej was an outstanding member of the UICC's water polo team and was also the first recipient of a water polo scholarship. While in the water, he scored 121 of UICC's 314 goals while the team averaged 12.6 goals per game.

Elected team captain three times, he also was named team MVP in 1974,1975 and 1976. He was also a top-notch student winning the Avery Brundage Award twice and graduated from UICC with honors, earning a bachelor's and master's degree in pharmacy.

Vlamis started every game during his four year career and was co-captain for three of those years. He was selected to the Collegiate All-State First Team and an AAU All-American.

Vlamis was a prolific goal scorer who led the team in goals scored in the 1978 and 1979 seasons, while often time defending the top opposing player. During his senior year, the team compiled a record of 20-3 and were ranked sixth in the nation. During his four years at UIC, the squad had a combined record of 69-17 and served as the top team east of California.

"Mike had a great dedication to the sport. He had excellent leadership in terms of his team members. He brought instant credibility to the UIC Water Polo program. He is a great alumnus and a great representative for UIC," said his former UIC Water Polo Coach Bob Danner.
