A talented two-sport athlete, Carroll-Poston was a standout on the hardwood as well as the track during her time at UIC. As a member of the basketball team she led the squad 'in scoring in each of her final three seasons. Her 1979-1980 season average of 22.7 ppg set the all-time Flames record. Carroll-Poston also set school records in single-game scoring (36), field goals made (15), and set the single season mark with 612 points and 396 rebounds. She concluded her career with 1,425 points and was the first female to dunk a ball in a college game.
Carrol-Poston also competed with the track team, specializing in the high jump and long jump. Her outdoor high jump record of 1.78m (5 ft. 10 in.), set in 1978, is one of the oldest records at UIC.
