John Zigmond, a career educator for more than 50 years, joined the UIC Baseball program in the summer of 2017. His relationship to UIC head coach Mike Dee dates back to the mid-1970's, when Dee was a student-athlete at Benet Academy and Zigmond was the baseball coach.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Procopius College, which is now knows as Benedictine University, Zigmond continued his studies at John Carroll University (M.A.T.) and then National-Louis University (Ed.D.).
Zigmond divided 35 years of his career between three public and two private secondary schools, first as a teacher and coach and then as a district and building administrator. Following his initial retirement in 2001, he returned to his alma mater, Benedictine, as Director of Alternative Education for 15 years. In that role Zigmond prepared career-changers to teach math and science at the secondary school level.
