Mike Hanna joined the UIC Athletic Training staff in October 2018. He began his tenure working the women's basketball program before transitioning to cover women's soccer in 2019. In 2020, he began working with the baseball and cross-country teams.
Hanna previously spent more than eight years as the Head Athletic Trainer at Roosevelt University in Chicago. At Roosevelt, Hanna maintained oversight of 16 NAIA varsity teams, while serving as a liaison between student-athletes, parents, athletic department staff and outside medical personnel since 2010. He created all policies, procedures and rules for the Athletic Training department and managed the budget, ordered supplies and maintained inventory.
Prior to joining the Lakers, Hanna worked as a Certified Athletic Trainer with Accelerated Rehabilitation Centers in Illinois. His primary role was to serve as the Athletic Trainer at Dundee-Crown High School and Morton High School.
Hanna began his professional career as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at Northern Illinois University from 2006-08. He was the primary Athletic Trainer for the NCAA Division I wrestling program, while also assisting with football coverage in the fall and spring. He served as an approved clinical instructor for undergraduate students in the NIU ATEP program while working toward a Masters of Science in Education with a degree in Exercise Physiology and Fitness Leadership, which he obtained in May 2008.
In 2006, Hanna received his Bachelor of Arts in Athletic Training from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa.
