Mitchell Schulewitz

Mitchell Schulewitz joined the UIC staff in the summer of 2018 as the Director of Player Development. The Mundelein, Ill., native pitched for the Flames under the direction of head coach Mike Dee from 2014-17.

Schulewitz was a senior relief specialist on the 2017 team that captured the Horizon League championship and matched the program record with 39 victories.That year UIC advanced to the NCAA Hattiesburg Regional, the team's first postseason bid since 2008. The Horizon League All-Academic team member appeared in 20 games out of the bullpen and allowed a run in only three of 20 outings. Schulewitz tied for team lead with three wins out of the bullpen and also collected two saves while pitching pitching in four of 11 of the team's shutouts. He posted a 2.38 ERA with 23 strikeouts and only eight walks in 22.2 innings of work. Schulewitz graduated in 2017 tied for third in program history in appearances with 83.

Following a successful collegiate career that included a pair of Horizon League championships, Schulewitz signed a professional contract with the Kansas City Royals. He was one of nine Flames from the 2017 squad to sign a professional deal following that team's historic run. He made 11 appearances for Kansas City's affiliate in the Arizona League and posted a 2,40 ERA with 15 strikeouts and two walks in 15.0 innings of work for the Royals.

In 2018, Schulewitz played closer to home for the Schaumburg Boomers of the Frontier League. He made 28 relief appearances and notched an ERA of 2.20 in 32.2 innings pitched.

In his new role with the Flames, Schulewitz assists with many aspects of UIC's strength and conditioning program, including dynamic warm-up, recovery and more.

Schulewitz graduated from UIC in 2017 with a bachelor of arts degree in communications. He also minored in psychology.
