2021: Made 13 appearances, including six starts … Finished the year with a 2-5 record … Picked up his first win of the year with 3.1 innings of relief work in an 18-7 victory over Youngstown State on May 2 … Added his second win of the year with 6.0 innings of relief while striking out six batters in a 10-7 come-from-behind victory … Punched out season-high seven batters in a 5-2 UIC victory in which Shears earned the no decision.
 
Prior to UIC: Joined the Flames after spending two seasons at Modesto Junior College … Made 13 relief appearances as a freshman in 2018 before adding 20 relief outings as a sophomore in 2019 … After having no record through his freshman season, posted a 3-1 record as a sophomore … Finished his sophomore campaign with 32.2 innings of work, striking out 52 batters and owning a 1.38 ERA.
