In his fourth season with the UIC men[apos]s basketball staff and third season as an assistant coach is former Flames standout Bryant Lowe. Lowe, who graduated from UIC in 1999, is in the midst of a reunion with head coach Jimmy Collins, joining the coaching staff after two standout seasons as a player for the Flames from 1996-1998. In 2008-09 Lowe helped the Flames chalk up upset road wins at Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech en route to a quarterfinal run in the Horizon League tourney. Lowe had an impact on the Flames[apos] most successful season since 2003-04, helping guide UIC to an 18-win campaign and a trip to the Horizon League semifinals in 2007-08. In 2006-07 Lowe served as the team[apos]s Director of Basketball Operations. When Collins was forced to miss the final 19 games of the 2006-07 season due to an abdominal aortic aneurysm, Lowe stepped up and assisted the program as a coach under associate head coach Mark Coomes. Lowe was a team captain on the 1997-98 UIC squad that won 22 games and gained the program[apos]s first-ever NCAA Tournament berth, earning All-Midwestern College Conference First Team accolades after averaging 15.1 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. In his first season with the Flames, Lowe was named to the MCC[apos]s All-Newcomer Team. Lowe returned to UIC after spending the previous three years as a manager for the Aldi Corporation. Prior to his work there, Lowe served as a Recreational Supervisor for the Alsip Park District and as a substitute physical education teacher and part time basketball coach at PAEC High School. Lowe lives in Alsip, Ill. He has two daughters, Tea and Brenae.
