Jenny Wilmes joined the UIC Flames in September 2017 to serve as the primary Athletic Trainer for the women's basketball program. In September 2018, Wilmes assumed responsibilities with the men's basketball team.
Prior to her arrival on the near west side, Wilmes worked at Jacksonville State University for more than three years. She began as an Assistant Athletic Trainer with coverage of several teams including football, men's basketball and men's and women's golf. In 2017 Wilmes earned a promotion to the role of Head Football Athletic Trainer. She added duties with softball and served as the department's drug testing coordinator and athletics health administrator.
In addition to providing medical coverage for multiple programs, Wilmes fulfilled several roles. She assisted the Director of Sports Medicine in daily training room needs, treatments and additional event coverage. She implemented and administered rehabilitation protocols per physician orders for various surgeries and procedures and also oversaw the organization and education of the student worker program in the Athletic Training Room. Wilmes also instructed a 300-level Kinesiology course on Therapeutic Exercise and Rehabilitation during her last two years on campus.
Prior to her work at Jacksonville State, Wilmes worked at another Horizon League school, Cleveland State. There she worked directly with women's soccer, men's and women's golf and men's basketball during their 2013-14 seasons.
Wilmes was a Graduate Assistant at Northern Colorado from 2011-13. While working with the football and softball teams, she also obtained a Master of Science degree in Biomechanics in May 2013.
A former softball student-athlete, Wilmes attended Winona State University in Minnesota. She was a student-athlete from 2006-10 and helped the Warriors reach the NCAA Division II World Series in 2009. Wilmes secured a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training in May 2011.
