Kevin Zabo

Kevin Zabo (last name pronounced ZAH-bo) is in his first season as an assistant coach at UIC, officially joining the staff in January 2026. He contributes to the Flames' recruiting and player development operations, while also aiding in game scouting and strategy.

Zabo came to Chicago's College Team following assistant coaching stints at Canisius (2024-25) and FDU (2023-24), as well as staff tenures at Jacksonville (director of player development in 2023) and his alma mater, Kent State (director of operations from 2021-23).

He has also experienced playing on the biggest stages, twice suiting up for teams that reached the NCAA Tournament while at San Diego State (2015 - third round) and Kent State (2017 - second round; scored 12 points and had team-high five assists vs. UCLA). In addition, he was a member of Team Canada's U-16 and U-17 squads, earning a bronze medal at the 2011 FIBA Americas U-16 Championship.

A native of Gatineau, Quebec, Canada, Zabo earned his bachelor of arts degree in communication from Kent State in 2018. He subsequently played two professional seasons in Spain with Albecete Basketball Club (2018-19) and Ponferrada Basketball Club (2019-20) before the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2012, he co-founded GetBetterBasketball, which is based in Montreal and focuses on training and skill development.
