Lisa Hehman was named Associate Athletic Director of Academic Services for the UIC Flames, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Garrett Klassy announced on April 3, 2019. She began her role at UIC on April 15, 2019.
Hehman comes to the Flames after working as the Basketball Advisor & Coordinator of Student Athlete Affairs since March 2012 at a fellow Horizon League institution, Cleveland State University. There she was responsible monitoring and guiding the academic development of student athletes from multiple teams including men's basketball and women's and men's tennis student athletes. She has also worked closely with the women's basketball program. The teams she's worked closely with have achieved and graduated at a high level with an Academic Progress Rate (APR) in the top-10 percent nationally various years and a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 100% for all 33 seniors to come through the men's basketball program during her tenure. No student-athlete was found to be academically ineligible during the competition season on any of Hehman's teams.
At Cleveland State, Hehman collaborated regularly across campus with departments such as Disability Services, Counseling Center and Tutoring Center to ensure adequate resources and accommodations were able to be provided for the student-athletes. She also created a comprehensive career development curriculum, while overseeing CSU's departmental community service projects and reporting, whether large-scale, team-based or individual opportunities. She has been a participant in the NCAA Leadership Academy Workshop and served as a facilitator for the Career in Sports Forum.
Hehman also worked as a Life Skills Specialist and Academic Support at CSU from 2007-2009. From July 2009 through March 2012, she worked as an Associate Director, Academic and Career Counseling at Kansas University. There, she worked closely with more than 85 student-athletes participating in track and field and golf.
Hehman graduated from Kansas in 2001 with a Bachelor of General Studies in Communication Studies. She also earned a Master of Arts in Counseling and Guidance from University of Missouri, Kansas City in 2007.
