Scott Sharp is in his second season as Chief of Staff for UIC men's basketball, having joined the staff in April 2024. In his current role, Sharp oversees many of the program's day-to-day operations, including team travel and budgeting, head coach Rob Ehsan's daily schedule and the program's community relations. He also coordinates the Flames' annual Father-Son Camp and assists with UIC's Name, Image & Likeness (NIL) efforts.
Sharp returned to the college basketball scene where he served as Director of Basketball Administration at UAB (2018-20), assistant coach at the College of Idaho (2014-18), and as a student manager at Boise State University (2013-14). Most recently, he served as recruiting director for AAO Flight, a youth club basketball program in Arkansas.
With his arrival in Chicago, Sharp reunites with Ehsan after the pair collaborated on the UAB staff when Ehsan was the Blazers' head coach. During Sharp's two seasons in Birmingham, UAB posted 39 wins and earned a berth in the 2019 CBI postseason tournament with a 20-15 record. The Blazers likely would have qualified for the 2020 postseason and registered another 20-win season were it not for the campaign ending early due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While at UAB, Sharp helped oversee the day-to-day operations of the Blazer program, collaborating in a variety of areas including operations, recruiting and scouting.
Prior to joining the UAB staff, Sharp served as an assistant coach at the College of Idaho. During his four seasons, the Yotes went 101-36 and went to four Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) postseason tournaments, while winning the CCC regular season and postseason titles in 2015 and 2018. In those same years, the Yotes appeared in three NAIA national tournaments, advancing to the quarterfinals in 2015, the second round in 2017 and the semifinals in 2018.
Sharp coached five All-Americans at the College of Idaho, including first-team selections Josh Wilson and Aziz Leeks. Both Leeks and Wilson were also named the Cascade Conference Player of the Year. He also coached Leeks, as well as Emanuel Morgan, to CCC Defensive Player of the Year honors. In 2017-18, the Yotes were the top defensive team in the NAIA Division II, allowing only 64.24 points per game.
Before arriving at the College of Idaho, Sharp spent the 2013-14 season as the student manager at Boise State.
He began his college coaching career with a wealth of experience, having previously coached at the high school level for 18 seasons, with stints as a freshman, junior varsity and varsity head coach at Bella Vista High School and Del Campo High School in the Sacramento area. He also coached the freshmen girls’ team at Mountain View High in Meridian, Idaho, to undefeated seasons in 2010 and 2011.
Sharp is a 2014 graduate of Boise State.
