Jeremy Buttell enters his sixth season on the coaching staff at UIC and will serve as the director of operations for head coach Steve McClain.
Buttell joined the Flames' staff prior to the 2010-11 season, and served as assistant coach during the 2014-15 campaign. He handled many areas of team management, including scheduling, budget and recruiting. Prior to his promotion, Buttell served as the video and operations coordinator for four years.
Buttell starred at UIC for three seasons (2007-10), competing in 88 games and garnering 60 starts. After UIC, Buttell signed a professional contract in Luxembourg prior to returning to the Flames coaching staff.
During his senior year at UIC, Buttell ranked first in rebounding in Horizon League games, third in minutes played and 11th in scoring. He produced five double-doubles, including four in the final five games of the season. As a junior (2008-09), Buttell played in 26 games, and turned in four double-digit rebounding efforts. He averaged 7.8 rebounds over the final 12 contests. In his first season as a Flame (2007-08), Buttell started 15 of the 33 games in which he played in.
Buttell began his college career at Texas Tech (2005-06), playing one season under legendary head coach Bob Knight. He played in 19 games as a true freshman and tallied a season-high nine points at Madison Square Garden against Syracuse. He earned one start for the Red Raiders versus Wake Forest in the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament.
A native of Colleyville, Texas, Buttell was a two-time 5A First-Team All-State selection and a two-time district MVP. He is the all-time leading scorer and rebounder at Colleyville Heritage High School and was a McDonalds All-American nominee. On the AAU summer circuit, Buttell won two national championships with the Dallas Mustangs.
Buttell earned his Bachelor's Degree in Communications at UIC in 2009 and a Master's in Education Instructional Leadership in 2010.
