Ross Cain enters his third season as the volunteer assistant coach for the men's soccer program. After starting in goal for the Flames from 2002-05, Cain served as the undergraduate assistant in 2006 before acting as the director of soccer operations for four seasons.

Cain started 37 games for UIC and garnered a 1.64 goals against average, along with an overall record of 20-13-2. His 20 wins serves as the fourth-most all-time in the Flames' record book, where Cain also owns the fifth-most career saves with 194.

Cain was named to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team in his first collegiate season in 2002, at which point he tied the UIC single-season record with six shutouts after playing 18 matches, collecting 10 wins, making 82 saves and posting a 1.83 GAA.

After starting 18 games in goal in 2003, Cain ranked first in the Horizon League in saves with 97 and in save percentage with .815, which ranked 14th in the NCAA.

Following his career as a student-athlete, Cain remained with UIC men's soccer as the undergraduate assistant for the 2006 NCAA Tournament team. He then transitioned to director of soccer operations and contributed to UIC's 2007 NCAA Elite Eight and 2008 NCAA Sweet 16 runs.

Away from UIC, Cain was a staff coach with Chicago United FC from 2006-10 and has additionally acted as owner and operator of Chicago Goalkeeping Academy since 2010. He has received the NSCAA State and Regional Goalkeeping Diplomas and USSF "E" license.

A native of Rochester, Minn., Cain earned his degree in kinesiology from UIC in 2007.

2005: Started one game in goal for the Flames...played the first 72 minutes against Centenary on Oct. 2.

2004: Started two games between the posts...made 14 saves...allowed five goals...started the season opener at Denver on Sept. 3, making six saves in the second period for a grand total of seven...started the Flames' home opener against DePaul on Sept. 15, stopping seven shots.

2003: Started 17 games in goal for the Flames...ranked first in the Horizon League in total saves (97) and save percentage (.815) while ranking second in saves per game (5.71)...allowed a paltry 1.38 goals against average...finished the season ranked 14th in the nation in saves...blanked Marquette on Sept. 3...held Northwestern scoreless on Oct. 21...teamed with Roman Tulis to shutout Northern Illinois on Oct. 8...nabbed a season-best nine saves three times during the campaign...stopped nine shots against Centenary on Sept. 5...tabbed nine saves in a 3-1 victory over Detroit on Oct. 24...grabbed nine shots-on-goal at San Francisco on Nov. 2...held Wright State scoreless for 103 minutes in the Horizon League Tournament quarterfinals...49 saves in seven conference contests were tops in the league.

2002: Started in goal in 18 games as a rookie for UIC...earned All-Horizon League Newcomer Team recognition after the season...posted a 10-7-0 record with a 1.83 goals against average...tied a UIC single-season record at the time with six shutouts...made a career-best 10 saves in UIC's 4-1 loss to New Mexico on Sept. 8...finished the year with 82 saves.

Prep/Personal: Four-year letterwinner as a goalkeeper at Mayo High School in Rochester, Minn...in his two years as a starter, helped guide Mayo to back-to-back Big 9 Conference titles in 2000 and 2001...as a junior he ranked first in the state for keepers with a 16-3-1 record, a 0.52 goals-against average, and 12 shutouts...made 102 saves that season...in his senior campaign, posted a 16-1-2 record in goal with a 0.61 GAA and 125 saves, which ranked third in the state...earned All-Big 9 Conference recognition in 2001...also lettered one year on the basketball team at Mayo...son of Michael and Kimberly Cain...born on November 18, 1983...majored in exercise and fitness.
