Stan Anderson returned to the UIC men's soccer staff in August 2026 as an assistant coach, working specifically with the Flames' goalkeepers. Anderson originally spent eight seasons on head coach Sean Phillips' staff at UIC from 2017-24, helping the Flames to a pair of Horizon League Tournament titles and NCAA Tournament appearances (2017, 2018), as well as a Horizon League regular-season championship in 2019. During that time, Anderson tutored UIC all-region netminder Sawyer Jackman (who is fifth in school history with 22 career wins and a 1.17 career GAA) and two other all-conference goalkeepers in Sokratis Vasilas and Andres Vasquez (who is fifth in program annals with 13 career shutouts).

Anderson has been coaching goalkeepers across the Midwest for more than three decades, having founded Camp Shutout, one of the region's premier training facilities for aspiring netminders. Along with his recent stint at UIC, Anderson has been the Director of Goalkeeping with the Chicago FC United Soccer Club since 2016.

At the collegiate level, Anderson was an associate head coach at Milwaukee (1996-2005), Loyola Chicago (2012) and Wisconsin (2013-16) before coming to UIC. He began his coaching career at William Fremd High School in Palatine, Ill., serving as head JV coach and assistant varsity coach from 1993-95.

A 1990 graduate of UW-Parkside, Anderson was a standout goalkeeper for the Rangers, departing as the program's leader in career shutouts (34) and single-season shutouts (17). He was an NAIA All-American in 1989 and helped Parkside to district titles in 1987 and 1989, and was later inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018. Anderson also earned inductions into the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame and the Palatine High School Hall of Fame.
