Dan Yopchick returned to UIC in September 2015. In 2019, he was named Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Operations. He has previously served as the Associate Athletic Director for Communications and the Director of Athletic Communications during his time on campus. Additionally, Yopchick was an Assistant Director of Athletic Communications for the Flames from 2009-11.
A native of Arlington Heights, Ill., Yopchick works closely on sales and marketing initiatives, corporate sponsorship opportunities, fan experiences, communications strategies, public relations, creative services, merchandising and relationships with UIC's media partners. He serves as a primary liaison between the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and strategic partners 4FRONT and The Aspire Group.
He has also served as the main spokesman for UIC Athletics, while also working closely with several sport programs, including: men's basketball, baseball, cross country, track & field, and golf.
Yopchick returned to UIC following a four-year stint as an Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Northwestern. His responsibilities included serving as the media relations contact for football, baseball, fencing and men's swimming & diving. He also worked closely with both men's and women's basketball and tennis programs during his tenure in Evanston.
Previously with the Flames, Yopchick worked with the baseball, cross country, track and field, volleyball and women's basketball teams. In addition, he fulfilled roles in event management, served as a public address announcer for several events and provided color commentary on Horizon League Network broadcasts.
In the summer of 2015, Yopchick worked as a Press Officer for USA Basketball. He represented the United States in Gwangju, South Korea at the World University Games and assisted with all communications efforts for the women's basketball team that captured the gold medal.
Additionally, Yopchick served as a media relations assistant for the American League Central Division champion Chicago White Sox in 2008. His first position in media relations was as a coordinator of the Bakersfield Blitz, an arenafootball2 team, in 2007.
Yopchick graduated from the University of Iowa in 2006 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in both journalism and health and sports studies. In August 2015, he completed a Master of Arts degree in sports administration at Northwestern University.
Yopchick resides in Evergreen Park, Ill., with his wife Ellen, a former assistant volleyball coach for the Flames from 2009-16. The couple has four children: Grace, Emma, Charlie and Nolan.
