Kellie Edwards returned to UIC in August 2021 to serve as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for UIC's volleyball and softball programs.
Prior to rejoining the Flames Family, Edwards was the Head Athletic Trainer at Triton College. She provided for the sports medicine needs of ten programs that compete in NJCAA's Division I and Division II by evaluating injuries, developing and implementing treatment plans, exercise plans, and therapeutic interventions. She built and maintained relationships with allied healthcare professionals throughout the area, allowing for easy access of referrals for student-athletes.
Before moving to Triton, Edwards worked with student-athletes at Moody Bible Institute. She assisted the needs of the teams competing at the NCCAA Division II level.
Edwards originally joined UIC in January 2020 as an Athletic Trainer in partnership with Athletico.
She received her Master's in Sport Science, Sport and Exercise Psychology from Lock Haven University in August 2019. Edwards aided a medical staff and served as the head athletic trainer for recreational sports leagues. While at Lock Haven, she served as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer with the football, track and field, and softball teams.
Edwards gained additional collegiate experience as an athletic training intern at Gallaudet. While an undergraduate at Central Michigan, she assisted the Chippewas' athletic training staff on the football, basketball, and wrestling teams. She also assisted with athletic training and orthopedic tasks at a local hospital and a local high school. During her senior year, she was an assistant cheerleading coach.
Edwards holds her Illinois Athletic Trainer's license, certification from the National Athletic Training Association, and expertise in addressing concussions.
