Salvador Chavez came to UIC after serving as the Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at Southern Illinois University. While with the Salukis, Chavez provided medical care, treatment, evaluation, and rehabilitation to student athletes while also teaching injury prevention and activity modification tactics.
Before his time in Carbondale, Chavez did an internship at Clemson University, working primarily with the men’s and women’s track and field teams. Chavez assisted in treatments and rehabilitation for the athletes, while also learning soft tissue techniques in an effort to help student athletes avoid future injury.
Chavez was a student athletic trainer at Northern Illinois University and Hampshire High School in 2014 & 2015, respectively. Chavez earned an associate degree in science from Moraine Valley Community College, a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training from Northern Illinois and a Master of Science in sports studies from Southern Illinois.
Chavez is a board certified athletic trainer, licensed AT in Illinois, and is also American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certified.
