Tarah McShane joined the Flames' coaching staff for the 2016 season as the volunteer assistant coach.
McShane helped coach UIC to its second-consecutive Horizon League regular season championship with a program-best 18 wins off a 32-16 regular-season record. The Flames garnered eight All-League honors and Elaine Heflin and Lexi Watts picked up Pitcher of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors, respectively.Â
McShane completed her four-year playing career at Valparaiso in 2015 as she assisted in 117 wins for the Crusaders and a pair of Horizon League Championships in 2012 and 2013.
McShane played a total of 168 games for Valpo and started 159 in her final three seasons while rotating between catcher, infielder and designated player. She was able to rank second all-time in the Crusaders' record book with a .989 fielding percentage off a mere six errors and recorded the 10th most putouts with 536.
She capped her career with a .282 batting average on 133 hits and added 53 extra-base hits, including 14 home runs, while contributing 94 RBI. Her RBI (94) and double (36) totals ranked sixth in program history and her 14 homers put her in ninth place.
