Entering his second season as an Assistant Coach for the University of Illinois at Chicago volleyball team is former Loyola Ramblers[apos] standout, Dan Schultz.
With one year under his belt, Schultz will be asked to carry a heavier work load when it comes to match preparation, including all aspects of team defense, blocking and defensive systems. Schultz is also responsible for scouting the opponents, as well as overseeing all home event preparation.
Prior to his stint with the Flames, Schultz served as the Head Girls Volleyball Coach for Glenbrook South from 2001 to 2003. During his time there, Schultz led the Titans to their first-ever appearance in the IHSA Class AA State Quarterfinals in 2002.
Schultz received his first taste of coaching while serving as a player-coach in Germany from 1999-2001. The Oak Park, Ill., native has also played professionally in the Netherlands and Greece.
Schultz was one of the most decorated student-athletes in Ramblers[apos] history as he was named the Loyola Male Athlete of the Year and AVCA Second Team All-American in 1998, while finishing his career as the school[apos]s all-time kills leader with 1,969 and serving as the president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
Following his collegiate career, Schultz spent the summer after his graduation as one of 25 players selected as a member of the United States Olympic Training Team. Schultz is currently a member of both the MVP and EVP professional beach volleyball tours.
