Scott Chipman was named UIC’s Deputy Athletics Director in March 2026. In his role with the Flames, Chipman serves on the department’s Senior Leadership Team, helping guide the overall management, strategic planning and day-to-day operations of UIC Athletics. He also works closely with Director of Athletics Andrea Williams to provide high-level oversight, advance departmental priorities and support the continued growth and success of UIC’s 18 varsity programs and more than 300 student-athletes.
In addition, Chipman serves as sport administrator for the UIC men’s basketball and volleyball programs, while acting as a department liaison across campus, the University of Illinois System and the Missouri Valley Conference.
Chipman has been a strategic leader within both intercollegiate athletics and international sport for more than 25 years. Most recently, he served as a consultant at DePaul University, partnering with athletics leadership to enhance the visibility of the Blue Demons’ men’s basketball program, while strengthening fan engagement and expanding its supporter base.
Prior to DePaul, Chipman was Senior Director of Stakeholder Experiences at the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC), where he led the strategy and execution of Team USA’s premier events. He oversaw immersive experiences for athletes, alumni, sponsors, donors and fans, including the Team USA House at the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, delivering 29 days of programming for more than 25,000 guests. His portfolio also included the Team USA Welcome Experience, White House Visit and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
Before his time with the USOPC, Chipman spent more than two decades with the Big Ten Conference, most recently as Vice President of Basketball & Football Events and Operations. In that role, he directed all operational aspects of the Big Ten Football Championship Game and the conference’s men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, while also creating premium fan experiences and large-scale ancillary events that elevated the conference’s national profile. He managed multimillion-dollar budgets, led host city bid processes and advised institutional leadership on key strategic and operational decisions.
Earlier, Chipman served as Associate Commissioner for Communications, acting as the conference’s primary spokesperson and overseeing media operations for major championships. He played a role in several transformative initiatives, including the launch of the Big Ten Network, conference expansion and the implementation of instant replay in collegiate football.
Chipman began his professional career as a graduate assistant in the sports information office at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign before joining the NFL’s Chicago Bears as a public relations assistant for nearly two years, leading into his tenure at the Big Ten.
A two-time Illinois graduate, Chipman earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1997 and a master’s degree in sport management in 1999. He and his wife, Heather, have four children: Braden, Sydney, Alexis and Mason.
