Chicago, Ill. ? DePaul?s Stacy Krumrei nailed a three-pointer, her only field goal of the game, with 0:38 left in the third overtime to give the Blue Demons an 83-80 triple-overtime victory over UIC on Sunday at Alumni Hall.
UIC (5-8) had five players score in double figures, led by Kimberly Henry?s 23-point effort. Amanda Bartz (13 points, 11 rebounds), Melea Clark (15 points, 10 rebounds) and Jaysie Chambers (16 points, 11 rebounds) each recorded a double-double in the loss, with Chambers setting new career highs in both points and rebounds.
DePaul (6-5) was paced by Jamie Lewis? career-high 25 points and Sylvia Blakeslee?s double-double with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
The Flames erased a 12-point DePaul lead (43-31) with 12:59 remaining in the second half, using a 13-0 run to take a 44-43 lead with 8:37 left. The two teams would exchange the lead seven times over the last eight minutes and went into the first extra period tied at 56-56.
In the first overtime, the Blue Demons reeled off the first six points before UIC went on a 6-1 run to pull within a point at 63-62. After a pair of free throws from DePaul?s Jeanene Novick with 0:50 left put the Demons up by three (65-62), UIC?s Amanda Bartz sent the game into a second overtime period with a three-pointer from the top of the key with 0:27 left.
UIC?s Kimberly Henry kept the Flames alive in the second overtime period scoring six of the team?s eight points, including a pair of free throws with 0:45 left that tied the game at 73-73 and sent it into triple overtime.
Three quick points by LeKesha Williams had the Flames up 76-73 in the third overtime, but DePaul quickly cut the lead with a jumper by Jamie Lewis. Following a runner down the lane by Williams that put UIC back up by three (78-75), the Demons? Laura Sobieszczyk drained a three-pointer to knot the game at 78-78 with 2:14 left in the extra period. Melea Clark put the Flames back up (80-78) with a baseline jumper, but DePaul answered again with a turnaround jumper from Lewis with 1:32 left.
A minute later, Krumrei connected on the game-winner with 0:38 left, after missing her first seven shots of the contest.
