Dayton, Ohio - The UIC volleyball team started a key conference road weekend on a sour note Friday evening as they were swept 15-8, 15-12, 15-8 at Wright State.
With the loss, the Flames' third in their last four matches, UIC drops to 13-5 on the season, 2-3 in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference. Wright State improved to 8-9 on the year, 3-2 in the MCC with the win.
Liza Osterhage and Darlene Prunty led the Raiders charge on Friday as Osterhage tallied a match-high 19 kills and seven blocks while Prunty tabbed 14 kills and posted an attack percentage of .520 (14-1-25) in the contest. Allie Smerz led the Wright State defense with 26 digs.
The Flames were led by freshman Teaha Shepperd, who finished the night with a team-best 12 kills. Senior setter Erica Anderson posted UIC's lone double-double with 35 assists and a team-high 17 digs.
Hitting was the key to the game as Wright State posted a .186 attack percentage, to the Flames .085 (40-28-141). UIC's offense flamed out in the third game as they hit -.036 (8-9-28) in the frame.
Don August's crew will have its work cut out for it on Saturday as they venture to Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind., to battle Butler at 4:00 p.m. UIC last won on the Bulldogs' home turf back in 1991.
