UIC concluded the opening round of the UTA Invitational with a perfect 3-0 record, downing Baylor 4-1 in the Flames' third game of the day.

Gina Arnold went 3-for-4 for UIC in the win while Samantha Iuli (4-0) threw 12 strikeouts while allowing seven hits in seven innings to pick up the victory.

UIC took the lead for good in the third inning thanks to a two-RBI single by Julie Bumgardner that drove in Arnold and Jennifer Tiffany. That hit gave the Flames a 3-1 lead that they would not relinquish.

Iuli struck out 13 Baylor batters, giving her a two-game total of 25 strikeouts on Friday.
