Tampa, Fla. - Julie Bumgardner went 3-for-4 while Jennifer Tiffany went 2-for-4 as the Flames pounded out 12 hits in a 4-2 victory against Hofstra in UIC's late game on Thursday. Rory Gonzales-Gould (8-7) got the win for UIC while Iuli earned the save. Hofstra was rated No. 28 in the lastest USA Today/NFCA rankings.
The win moved UIC's record to 19-12 on the season and gave the Flames a perfect 2-0 start through the first day of the Speedline Invitational. UIC resumes action at 11:00 a.m., CST, against Maryland as the Invitational continues with bracket play. UIC faces No.18 South Carolina at 1:00 p.m., CST.
