Clearwater, Fla. -Rory Gonzales-Gould tossed her third shutout of the season as the UIC softball team improved to 3-0 in the Clearwater Recreation Softball Tournament with a 2-0 triumph over Tennessee Tech Friday afternoon.

Gonzales scattered five hits en route to her 12th win of the year.

The Flames got the only run they needed in the bottom half of the first as Julie Bumgardner laced a double into the right-centerfield gap, which scored Jennifer Tiffany. Stefanie Christoferson gave UIC an insurance run in the sixth inning with her seventh home run of the season.

Samantha Iuli missed the contest with an injured ankle, which she twisted sliding into third base in yesterday's win over Florida International. She will not compete this weekend and will be re-evaluated when the Flames return to Chicago on Sunday.

UIC, now 27-15 on the season, takes on Western Kentucky later this afternoon with the winner taking first place in Pool C. Maral Binnebose (2-0) will take the mound for the Flames versus the Hilltoppers.
