Chicago, Ill. - The UIC men's and women's tennis teams learned their postseason fates this afternoon as brackets were released for the 2000 Midwestern Collegiate Conference Tennis Championships. The two-day event will take place this weekend, April 29-30, at North Central High School in Indianapolis, Ind.
The UIC women's team, which will be looking for an unprecedented fourth consecutive MCC title, enters the championship as the No. 1 seed after going 3-0 in league play during the regular season. The Flames receive a first-round bye and will play the winner of No. 4 UW-Green Bay and No. 5 Detroit on Saturday, April 29, at 3:00 p.m., in the semifinal round of the tournament. With a win, UIC would advance to the championship match on Sunday, April 30, at 10:00 a.m.
The men's team enters the 2000 championship as the No. 4 seed and will take on defending champion and top-seeded Butler in the opening round on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Should the Flames pull off the upset, they would play for the conference title later that afternoon at 3:00 p.m. There is also a third-place match on Saturday at 3:00 p.m., for the two losing first-round-teams.
The winners of both the men's and women's championships receive automatic bids to the 200 NCAA Tournament.
