Box Score

Birmingham, Ala. - The UIC Flames soccer team and the College of Charleston played to a 1-1 tie this afternoon in the second day of action at the UAB/Nike Classic. The Flames return home with a 0-1-1 record as they fell to 24th-ranked North Carolina on Friday night, 4-1.

This afternoon against Cougars, the teams were deadlocked at 0-0 until the 75th minute of the game when UIC finally managed to fire the ball past Charleston goalkeeper Wes Martino. Senior All-American Eric Lukin, who did not play Friday against UNC as he was serving a red card suspension, scored UIC's lone goal of the game at the 75:45 mark while sophomore Steve Collins set him up for the tally.

The College of Charleston kept the pressure on and in the 81st minute it paid off as Matt Keifer netted his first goal of the season to knot the game at 1-1.

Despite outshooting the Cougars 33-10, including 13-3 in the two overtime periods, the Flames were only able to get one goal past Martino as he made seven saves on the afternoon. UIC's offensive attack was also hampered by seven offsides.

The Flames will be back in action next weekend at the Oregon State Invitational, which gets underway Friday night against Sacramento State.
