Game #4 - Bronze Bracket (Tournament Play)

UIC 4, Seton Hall 1

Columbus, Ga. - Jacquelyne Vaca's grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning ignited the UIC softball team to its first win at the NFCA/Leadoff Classic as they topped Seton Hall, 4-1, in the opening round of the Bronze Bracket.

The win, which avenged a 5-0 defeat to the Pirates on Friday, snapped the Flames four-game losing streak and evened UIC's record at 10-10 on the season. The victory also advanced UIC to the quarterfinal round where they will meet Georgia tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. EST.

"Seton Hall is a team that scored eight runs on (#9) Stanford, so for (Alison) Aguilar to hold them to one is really saying something," UIC Head Coach Mike McGovern remarked after the game. "We haven't had much luck at the plate so far at this tournament and I told the kids to be more aggressive up there this game. I guess it paid of."

Versus the Pirates, the score was 0-0 in the bottom of the fourth with one out and the bases loaded when Vaca delivered her bases clearing blast. It was her team-best fourth home run of the season and gave the freshman a team-best 15 RBI for the year as well.

Those runs would be all UIC would need as rookie Alison Aguilar (4-3) went the distance in the circle, scattering seven his and striking out three en route to her fourth win of the season.
