Macomb, Ill. - The men's tennis team traveled south to Macomb, Illinois to take on the Western Illinois Leathernecks on Sunday.
But this was no ordinary road trip for senior Jason Kerr.
Kerr, who transferred to UIC from Western Illinois, earned a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Carlos Mondez at No. 5 singles to clinch a 4-3 victory for the Flames. UIC improves to 3-4 with the victory.
"This was a very tough environment to play in," men's tennis coach Chuck Cunningham said. "To beat these guys on their own turf is very impressive."
Kerr later teamed up with sophomore Nick Bodmer at No. 1 doubles for a 8-6 victory over Matt Kinst and Sean Moran.
The Flames also received singles victories from Nesar Nayak (No. 2), Jon Schmidt (No. 3), Wade Clark (No. 4).
"This was the most impressive win out of the three matches that we've won," Cunningham said. "This was a solid team effort - particularly the middle of the line-up."
The Flames will be back in action on Sunday as they will host Southern Illinois at the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet Club at 9 AM.
